London Marathon Magic from Moneycorpers
“Everyone should run the London Marathon at least once in their life.”
3 minute readOn Sunday 23rd March, four members of the Moneycorp team ran the London Marathon. Kicking off to a very rainy start in Greenwich, Moneycorp’s Head of Financial Planning & Analysis, Alana Harvey, Digital Marketing Executive, Michael Gardner, Senior Account Manager, Max Huseyin, and Chief Risk and Compliance Officer for Moneycorp Bank, Oliver Greenslade all took part in the landmark event raising money for three fantastic charities.
Max and Oliver joined longstanding friend of Moneycorp, Sara Weller CBE, as she completed the 26.2 mile course in her wheelchair to raise money MSMustStop. Sara founded MSMustStop, after her own Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis to raise awareness and money to fund research into the disease through the MS Society. Sara has already raised over £150,000.
The team beat their target time, managing to finish the marathon in 5hrs and 32mins.
“The team spirit was fantastic,” said Oliver, “especially as we were treated to glorious sunshine for the final push around Big Ben and down The Mall.”
“Everyone should run the London Marathon at least once in their life,” added Max. “I’ve already entered the ballot for next year!”
Alana ran her marathon in 4hrs and 33mins for the NSPCC and has raised over £3,000 - with donations still coming in. The charity is one close to her heart, and she cites the importance of protecting future generations and the 1 in 5 children in the UK exposed to domestic violence as part of her motivation.
Alana said, “Running the London Marathon is something truly unforgettable! One of my teammates described it not as a race - but as a carnival. And now I’ve done it, I wholeheartedly agree!”
Michael was the third in his family to participate in the event, following his brother and father. They all ran the marathon in aid of Bliss, a charity that supports the families of babies born premature or sick. Michael has already raised nearly £2,000, with a charity football match still to come. He also fulfilled his aim of beating both their times, coming in at an incredible 4hrs and 17mins.
Despite problems with injury in the lead-up to the event, Michael described taking part in the London Marathon as “honestly, an incredible experience.”
“And to run it with all my family there to watch me was just amazing.”
The whole Moneycorp team is immensely proud of Max, Oliver, Michael, and Alana’s achievements during the event and the effort and determination they’ve shown in raising money for some vital causes. Congratulations from all of us!
